Service Dates: 10/10/1940 - 12/7/1946

Military Career:
RS Houston, TX; NTS San Diego, CA; USS Tennessee; RS Bremerton, WA; RS Astoria, OR; USS Solomons; Hedron 5-2, Fasron 102, US NAS Norfolk, VA. American area: European Theatre of Operation: Victory medal: American Defense.

Civilian Career:
1946 - 1952 First National Bank, La Feria, TX; 1952 - 1956 First National Bank, Mercedes, TX; 1956 - 1984 Harlingen National Bank, Harlingen, TX; Retired from banking 1/1/1985. Presently I have a brokerage real estate license, and I'm caring for three acres of personal citrus orchard. 

Family:
Married to Rosemary; no children.

Collins, 1944Elijah Jonathan (E. J.) Collins, Jr.

DOB: 5/30/1923

Birthplace: Elgin, Texas

Service Dates: 1/4/1941 - 6/12/1946

Military Career:
Enlisted in Beaumont, TX, 6/40; inducted in Houston, TX, 1/41; Boot training at Naval Training Station in San Diego, CA, Co. 41-3, 2/41; boarded USS Blue DD-387 in Bremerton, WA, 3/41; worked west coast/San Diego, CA, 4/41; arrived Pearl Harbor, HI, 5/41; continued in the Navy until discharge in 6/46.

Civilian Career:
Construction, oilfield supply, Shell Oil Co., Collins Sales Inc., Alert Security Systems.

Family:
Married to Lucille, 8/44; I have five children and nine grandchildren.

Remarks:
Early on I may have had some regrets for not making the Navy a career. I now think it is best the way things worked out. I think PHSA is a worthy organization and in some small way we can help keep the world a safer place to live.

Navy: USS Jarvis DD-393; USS Duxbury Bay AVP-30; Fargo NB. Coast Guard: St. Clair Flats LBS; Belle Isle LBS; Nihau Loran Sta.; CGC Yonaguska; CG Trasta Groton; Chicago LBS; CGC Chatauqua; CG Trasta Alameda; CGC Gresham; CGC Northwind; Disbursing Off, 13th CG Dist.; CGC Storis. 

Merchant Marine: Ships too numerous to list. Companies: Pacific Far East, American President, States, Prudential, and Matson Lines. Highest Rate Navy = BKR1/c. Highest Bank Coast Guard = CWO-W2 (Pay & Supply) Sailed Merchant Marine as Purser/Chief Purser.

Normal Campaign medals plus Navy and Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals (I was never caught!)

Civilian Career:
Worked as Payroll/Traffic Manager with EthylVisqueen Corp. 8/1964 - 10/1966. Also odd jobs between services.

Family:
Widowed 7/1985, wife Lillian; daughter Joyce (deceased 4/1991); grandson John; granddaughters Nancy and Paula; great granddaughter Danielle and great grandson Stephen.

Jack Jones

DOB: 3/19/1923

Service Dates: 1/1/1941 - 11/1945

Military Career:
Transferred to USS Massachusetts from USS Tennessee; American Service Ribbon; two battle stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon; one battle star, European-African-ME Service Ribbon; nine battle stars, Asiatic-Pacific Service Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal.

Civilian Career:
Studebaker Corp., South Bend, Indiana, 10 years; Iowa Electric Light & Power Co., electrician; retired 1984. 

Family: 
Wife Julie Ann, three sons, and three daughters.

LarsonWalter Theodore Larson

DOB: 1/26/1923

Service Dates:
12/20/1940 - 11/19/1947

Military Career:
USS Nevada; USS Saratoga; ETC School Washington, DC; USS LCI (G) 455; USS Bunker Hill; Sub-Group One, Bremerton, WA; American Campaign; Asiatic-Pacific - 8 stars; American Defense - Fleet Clasp; WWII Victory; Good Conduct Navy Unit Citation.

Civilian Career:
Northwest Bell Telephone Co. -- worked in Iowa for 10 years then moved to Minneapolis, MN, and worked in PBX Department for another 26 years. Retired 12/1983 with 36 years of service.

Family:
Married to Jere; have five daughters; we live in Minneapolis, MN, in the summer and in Alamo, TX, in the winter (Winter Texan).

Eugene J. Parus

DOB: 11/5/1920

Service Dates: 10/24/1939 - 12/9/1945

Military Career:
Enlisted in the US Naval Reserve, Apprentice Seaman, Rochester, NY; USS Mead, Seaman second class; USS Castor, Baker third class; Pearl Harbor Raid, Baker second class; USS Fletcher, DD-445, Baker first class; Advance Base, Navy 722 FFT, New Guinea; APA Pre-Commissioning School, Naval Station, Seattle, WA; Naval Air Station, Astoria Oregon; USS Karnes, APA-175, Chief Commissary Steward; Honorable Discharge, Chief Commissary Steward. 

Civilian Career:
Stromberg Carlson, General-Dynamics, Global Van Lines sales rep., XEROX security guard, retired.

Family:
Married to Vicki, four children - Diane, John, Patricia, and Michael. Three grandchildren - Naomi, Jon-Mark, and Alexander.

Scribner 1992Vivian Francis Scribner

DOB: 6/11/1911

Service Dates: 11/1939 - 11/1945

Military Career:
Joined Navy 11/1939; trained at San Diego; Sent to West Virginia 1/1940; Sent to Hawaii, along with Wee Vee and group, 5/1940; made 3rd Class just before Pearl Harbor attack; after my ship sunk, I joined PT Boats--assigned to PT 21; made battle at Midway; returned to Pearl Harbor; sent to Palmyra for three months; on to Espirito Santos; on to Solomons; assigned to PT 59; four months with the USS Kennedy; received all West Pac medals with four stars; taught radar for two years, MTBSTC. Most of my Naval career was in PT Boats.

Civilian Career:
Texas Highway Dept., worked signal lights, took over newly formed Radio Dept., installed all stations and mobile units in District 21, and for 27 years I maintained 16 base stations and 165 mobile units.

Family:
Wife Grace (lost first wife Katherine to cancer in 1972), three sons and three daughters.

Remarks:
I helped organize this PHSA, Chapter 11.

Wallace R. Stanfield

DOB: 6/29/1923

Service Dates: 1/2/1941 - 6/29/1946

Military Career: 
USS Argonne 12/7/41; PT 26, Battle of Midway; PT 24, Alaska; teaching, Melville, RI.

Civilian Career:
Salesman, plumbing business, VA Hospital.

Family:
Wife Norma, five children, and nine grandchildren.

John Stansberry

 DOB: 2/20/1917

Service Dates: 12/1935 - 9/1955

Military Career:
USS West Virginia 12/7/1941; flew airplanes, non-rigid airships models L, M, and G types, Retired CPO 19-1/2 years.

Civilian Career:
US Atomic Energy Commission; US Postal Service; real estate broker; US Department of Labor; assessor-manager, Water District 14, Mission, Texas.

Family:
Wife Erma, two daughters, one son.

Swedberg thenSwedberg nowKenneth C. Swedberg

 DOB: 1/24/1921

Service Dates: 2/1938 - 10/1945

Military Career:
USS Ward 1/1941-2/1943; USS Salt Lake City 2/1943-8/1945; Eight battle stars; First Class Water Tender; aboard USS Ward on 12/7/1941; sunk Japanese midget sub by gunfire one hour before planes attacked Pearl Harbor; involved in battle of Komandorskie Island 3/26/1943 while on the USS Salt Lake City.

Civilian Career:
Graduate of Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Power Plant Engineering; employed for 36 years at St. Paul Water Utility, Chief Engineer and Pumping Supervisor; Vice President, First Shot Naval Vets., St. Paul, honoring USS Ward group.

Family:
Wife Donna, two daughters, one son, and six grandchildren.

Remarks:
Served as Treasurer of this PHSA, Chapter 11.

DOB: 9/1/1920

Service Dates: 11/12/1937 - 5/21/1957

Military Career:
USNTS, San Diego, CA; USS Detroit; USS Henley; CASU 6-37-63; experimental torpedo drop, Quanset Point, RI; Fleet Machine Gun School, Qualified Rifle Marksman; USS Massey DD-778; Recruiter School, Bainbridge, Maryland; Recruiting Duty, Topeka, KS; Advanced Aircraft School; and Advanced Under Sea Weapons School in Florida. 

Civilian Career:
US Postal Service, Rural Letter Carrier; Retired 1976.

Family:
Married to Dixie, 2 daughters Darcy and Dawn Lee (deceased); four grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
